Albumflow Beta 1.0 - Wiimote controlled

The second project in line we anounced is the AlbumFlow.
It works almost the same like the MovieFlow beta 1.0, also the connection off the wiimote is done by ‘bluesoleil’ (or some kind).

For more details of how this works, please take a look at the MovieFlow topic.

3D HomePlanner - adobe director

3D homeplanner is a study assigment i lately developed. The main goal was to create a 3d ‘home’ model, were you can add other 3d models, like an chair or table. At this point we are currently working on a few bug fixes and a good preloader.
If you open the program, it freezes a little bit, because it need to load all the models at once to get it working. This is not verry efficient. The biggest bug in line should be the save ‘button’. It takes over 5 minutes to complete. We are neerly fixing this. Also it’s Mac compatible (hybrid).

  • Although, it’s worth looking at! There are a lot of neat functions and experiments in this project. Please be kind, post some feedback and report the bugs.

Download the zip file (27Mb)

* to keep the download as low as possible we removed the help video’s.

Fedora Core 8, the installation (or rather, Anaconda HELL)

Fedora Core 8As i said last week, Red Hat has released Fedora Core 8. I was pretty anxious to get it and install it on my own desktop, even though I had it downloaded pretty rapidly it took me a few days before I installed it.

I wanted to do a complete re-installation, this in general is really what you want to do. I had some bad experiences with a Fedora Core 7 upgrade so that was a no go.

So, I started the installation Tuesday, clicking through the new installation wizard powered by Anaconda 11.3.0.50. I noticed the nice “Additional Software” option during the installation, which made a connection through the internet to get the latest packages. Very nice indeed and very hopefull, I took the time to select the perfect packages and include for instance Xfce.

Unfortunately my enthusiasm was about to be crushed like a little ant. more…

MovieFlow beta 1.0 - Wiimote controlled

In this project we are gonna take a look at this movieFlow project. This is the first of the first beta in line. So don’t expect a totally bug free program! :P

The goal is to make a part of the total ‘media player’ concept like shown in the topic “concept media ui design and adobe director“. This little program should also be developed in adobe director, for the main reasons, fast and easy flash integration.

Concept media ui design and adobe director

We are currently working on a easy to use media user interface that support more then only the basic media files. To easily develop our concepts we use adobe director. Mostly for the reason that flash can easily be integrated. On the other hand we dont think you want a program running on a desktop (windows kind machine) to be your ‘home media player’. its not that stable, a dedicated device would be more stable and much faster. But that would be of the record to get started. So this will be basicly a experimenting program and UI design study for the big public. We are currently working on, music and video selecting trough the coverflow design. To keep this for the ‘big public’ we are using the wiimote (wii remote) as controlling device. For testing the keybord is also working. Lateron we discuss the code and development of this new concept.

Here you can see the first design concepts. All comments would be welcome!

Top Secret! Hiding text files

spying.jpgHow to easily hide your text messages into .jpg files:

First make a new path like:
c:hiding/

Put into the folder an normal photo like picture.jpg
next to this file you make a plain message.txt or .doc, whatever you like.

then the tricky part :P
convert the text file into an .rar format. For example with use of winrar.
next you want to open the command promd. Type the next line:

cd c:\hiding

copy /b picture.jpg + message.rar newpicture.jpg

just keep in mind that you have the good filenames.
Thats all!

Now you can open the file like an normal picture, but when you open it with winrar you can see the message!

Fedora Core 8 released!

It’s that time of the year again, a new version of Fedora Core has been released :). I’m dedicating my 20Mbit line now, to get that baby so I can install it later on. While I’m waiting on that, I might as well share some of my first glance thoughts.Fedora 8

I must say that it looks pretty darn good at first glance, as with every new version there are some changes worth mentioning:

  • Gnome 2.2.0 and the new Nodoka theme
  • Online Desktop
I have to say this feature suprises me, I’m still not very fond of the whole online desktop idea. The things I have stored on my ‘private desktop’ should stay there, although perhaps I’m still too paranoid in that section. I purpose that I will at least try it, I’m ignorant enough to use Gmail, so…
  • KDE 3.5.8
  • Xfce 4.4.1 I’m pro Xfce :)
  • Wireless support improved through NetworkManager 0.7, I’ve already seen some positive feedback
  • PulseAudio is enabled (and installed) by default, no experience with that yet.
  • CodecBuddy, CodecBuddy is supposed to help people pick open format codecs in stead of patented technology. Personally I’d rather have it so they had a “CodedBuddy” being a program that gives me the option to easily install many ‘patented’ technologies at my own risk…
  • Compiz Fusion, way out of my video cards league for now…
  • IcedTea, the direct effect of Sun Microsystems releasing their JDK as open source earlier this year.
  • OpenOffice.org 2.3
  • Eclipse 3.3
  • And many more improvements like for instance improved support for Bluetooth devices, power management, better security features, new graphical firewall tool, Kiosk functionality through SELinux, secure remote management for Xen/KVM/QEMU and performance improvement to Yum/Pirut/Pup (Wonder if this is related to Daniel’s excellent C metadata parser for yum..).

You can grab the latest version from the Fedora Project website, wait until I’m done though ;)
